Sighs: went to do the upgrade today.
setup a new iteration on the the windows 2000 server 'puter that has a mirror.
set up 3.7.15
copied the data base to this computer over-writing the empty database files.
ran the program - worked fine.
ran the just downloaded Version 4 (believe is v4.0.62b)
It installed windows .NET 2.0, and the sql server files and the proceeded to install Version 4.
The process seemed to go without a hitch.
until....
I attempted to run V4 for first time...
at which point it searches for AmazingCharts.xml
It asks me to look manually: I don't see it.
I have it search for the file in the "C:" and it returns a "shortcut to AmazingCharts.xml" in recent documents and settings. On asking it to "find target", I am told the file no longer exists, and should it delete the shortcut?
Any Ideas as to why it (apparently) deleted this file?
and how far back I should back up?
Fortunately, I have not changed the old server..., so I won't be stuck... but it throws a damper on the weekend.

Try looking under c:....Program files...Amazingcharts....
Use AC utilities to reset databases and then see if it works.

Did you choose the "main computer" type of install for AC, or the client install? The AC folder on my client computers are missing AmazingCharts.xml.

was installed as "Main computer" since it is the one that will eventually be the new server.
(set it up essentially isolated... just in case it did not go smoothly).

Well, the thing to keep in mind is that the xml file is easy to make. I am unsure why some have had this problem but here is a fix. Open Notepad, type in the following text
Code
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
- <AmazingCharts>
- <Settings>
  <LocalDbPath>C:\AmazingCharts\AmazingCharts.mdf</LocalDbPath>
  <SqlPortNumber>61067</SqlPortNumber>
  </Settings>
  </AmazingCharts>
Change the part that says C:\AmazingCharts\etc. to the location of your AC Folder. Now save it in your AC folder as AmazingCharts.xml . When asked for it, browse to the AC folder and select it. This worked for someone else previously. Let us know if it works.

Paul's method should work.

Basically, from my experience, whatever database (and computer) you connect to keeps the .xml file. The one from which you connect loses it.

It is rather easy to recreate the file. If, as Steven says, you simply go to the folder on the main computer and open Amazing Utilities, you can click on the Repair Connections at the bottom. When you click on this, it will open up a window. You browse to the AC folder, click on it, and then hit OK. It will quickly repair the connection by creating the file with the correct path.

For those who do not wish to make their own or for those whose helpful IT guy just can't get the job done, you can download an AmazingCharts.xml file from this link:

Keep in mind if your path is not C:\Program Files\Amazing Charts then you will have to change that by opening it in notepad. But, that path is the default path.
