Wendell,

Just a few things from the other point of view. And, I certainly agree that support can sometimes be the best way to go. But, wow, we would have to take the entire userboard down if we were going to go with support vs userboards. Everyone on the board knows this is an As Is.

I have steered many people toward paying an IT consultant as I could tell by his or her questions that they needed to go that route.

It sounds as though they did connect to V4. An .xml file is an .xml file (I will go into more detail later if I have time).

But, the code Paul showed is the code in the .xml file and as long as you have the correct path, and the default is the path to the C:\Program Files\Amazing Charts\AmazingCharts.mdf, you should be fine.

The download above can be used on the main computer if for whatever reason the .xml file is gone. Again the path must be correct.

To answer Wendell, the conversion went well. I am in version 4
now. I would not say happy report if I did not go through it successfully.
I chat online with the help desk. The strength of the User Board is to allow us to work after hours. Within the working hour, we cannot afford to bring the system down at all.

In short, I would love to know why the AmazingCharts.XML is not created but luckily there is a way around. In this case.
it was manual execution using the conversion utility.

I am glad you finally got it to work. Something I noticed is that if the .xml file somehow gets lost, if you start up AC on the server (or main computer) it seems to check to see if it has that file, and if not it will rebuild it.

Paul,

I guess we have our own little board here. But, how do you open AC and generate another .xml file? If you don't have the .xml file in the folder, it doesn't seem to open as it looks for the datapath.

Well, I was missing the AmazingCharts.xml file a few different occasions (I believe staff was deleting it and permissions were not in effect to stop them) and once I recreated the .xml by hand, and a separate time I opened AC and it did not find the database, and so I closed out and tried again, and it prompted me to start the Amazing Utilities and I ran "Repair" which replaced the AmazingCharts.xml. I guess I should have mentioned that it was the Repair in Amazing Utilities that fixed the problem, not sure why I didn't. Maybe because it's Monday!?
