Give me 20 or 30 labels, keys, 'magic buttons' whatever, That I can chose to EMBED in my templates, and represent fields or granules of data. Just for description lets say that AC is made to see the sequence of symbols, "*A1" as a 'granule' of data and "*A2" as another. Now I can define the granule just by embedding that symbol in my template. I have a template for the diabetic foot exam. I embed *A1 in the template and later I can search for HgbA1C, 250.82 and *A1. A search of the field *A1 shows it is done, and the date.

Jon might also consider the use of "expanding template" functionality, that essentially drills down to the specific granular aspects of the exam. For Example : [+] red ear, when checked becomes: [+] dull, [+] opacified, [+] retracted, a minus sign [-] can become a pertinent negative. It would be nice to have a small implantable button or font symbol in the text that we can insert in our templates to exploit this type of script behavior. Useful symbols could then be [+], [-] ,and or [checkmark]. I presently use manual entry of the granular exams when I insert my templates. I wish I could use color, boldface and italics and underline also. It would be also nice if the text could be fixed size to allow it to line up nicely on the Left
My baseline Ear exam could be: R_EAR - WNL - [-] red, [-] effusion, [+] pink, [+] pearly-grey
Abnormal could be: R_EAR - ABN - [+] red, [+] purulent effusion, [+] opacified, [+] dull,

One of the problems with color and bold, ect. is that the formating of the documentation will not allow for "rich text" which would allow these possibilities. It apparently is NOT a simple fix, Jon has mentioned in the past, but it is on his list to do.
