Succesfully installed V4 on main computer and 4 others. All running vista business.
5 more computers I have utterly failed on. Got a runtime error '429' ActiveX component can't create object.
Anyone know what that means? Tried re-installing a few times already.
Thanks in advance.

Was given this link by AC support a while back and saved it - although I think I also had luck with just installing the AC with the version of make it possible for this computer to sync and bring back - full install. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/260885I actually just took my Vista computer out and replaced it with 5$500 Windows XP home machines that work great as workstations. AC told me about this and I never had to use it, but error 429 was a common error.

I can't remember the exact error, but I think I got that error on the one Vista Home we have. (No idea why we have one Vista computer.)
I was told to turn off UAC (user account control) in the users section of control panel. Try that, reboot then uninstall and reinstall. That might do it. It worked for me.

Turning off the UAC fixed the problem. Thanks.

If you are running Vista , you have to run all AC actions initially (the installer and the AC icon in the Ac folder- not on the desktop)by right clicking and selecting run as administrator. If you do this once , you will not get any further errors- I run 14 peer to peer computers and run a mix of all the versions of XP and all the versions of Vista , all connected without ANY problems

The 429 error is an annoying issue that happens when Amazing Charts tries to instantiate an object. In human terms, that means that when Amazing Charts goes to create something like a patient record (in the memory of the computer), it can't.
The reason usually has to do with a missing or unregistered dll. In human terms, that means that some of the code used by Amazing Charts and other programs, can't be found or loaded up when it is needed.
Most times, this is because during the installation process, the dll wasn't able to register itself (in human terms, that means that the dll couldn't tell the operating system where it is located).
User Access Control (UAC) in Vista, sometimes blocks the dll from registering, but doesn't tell the user it has done so - so everything seems to install fine, but then one gets that frustrating 429 error (can't create object).
The fix is to either manually register the dll (using regsvr32 at the command prompt - which I would not recommend anybody to try unless they know what they are doing), or as Dr. J did, turn off UAC and reinstall. Although this issue is relatively rare, our tech support folks do regularly see it, and must manually register the dll for some clients.
Keep in mind before simply turning off UAC (the instructions for which can be found by googling 'turn off uac") that the concpet of UAC is helpful at preventing your computer from being taken over by malware and viruses. Unfortunately the kinks of it have yet to be worked out by Microsoft.

UAC is much better than the old "everyone's an admin" setup MS used before, we should generally take Jon's advice and keep UAC enabled where possible.

Hi all. I have a Windows XP P2P network, and was able to update to V4 on my main computer(HP), and a Lenovo laptop without problems. However, it would not load up on the front office computer and another laptop (both HP's). I was logged on as administrator all times when upgrading. I got Error message 1722 after installation, and Error message 429 on opening it up. I have all computers with XP pro. I'm still waiting for tech support to call us back. Thanks for any help. For what it is worth regarding the pesky 429 error:
I have 2 machines running Vista Ultimate. One is a laptop so I loaded AC ver 4 on that one with the SQL database option (option 3).
(Forgive me yet I don't remember the exact wording yet you can chose 1."Yes this is the only machine runnig AC" or 2."No I will be accessing the database on another computer and don't need the SQL database loaded on this machine" or 3."Maybe. I might use this machine as a standalone and SQL will be loaded.")
It loaded fine, and I didn't even get the error message saying installation had failed. The program started up without any problems. When I loaded it on my Vista Touchscreen desktop I chose option 2. I got the error message saying installation had failed and I got the 429 error and AC wouldn't load. Went back to the office today and reloaded AC with option 3 on my desktop and voila everything worked fine.
I wish I was more knowledgeable about why loading the SQL database made it work. I don't notice any serious decline in machine speed/function. Wondering if anyone could explain why this worked. Also, maybe it can help someone else get around the 429 error. (Note I did not have any of these issues on my XP Pro machines.)

The frustrating 429 error refers to a problem where one of the dlls didn't get registered correctly during installation (usually as a result of Windows UAC or other security - like Norton or McAfee virus protection - that silently prevented the dll from getting registered during the installation).
Other than turning off the security measure and reinstalling Amazing Charts, our tech support folks will manually register the dll. This works only if we know what dll failed to register, but a common one is the chilkat xml dll. Here is how that dll, located in the Amazing Charts directory, is manually registered - which basically tells windows that if it needs the chilkatxml dll, it can be found in the Amazing Charts directory.
Open a command prompt and type: regsvr32 "c\program files\Amazing Charts\chilkatxml.dll"
(This assumes your Amazing Charts directory is on your c drive, in the path above. If Amazing Charts is located on the d drive then you would type the same as above and change the drive letter.)
