I was looking around the website, with the V4 becoming official, and was reminded about totalmd, which is a practice management system that interfaces with AC without xlink.
Is anyone using it?
I did a search of the forum going back a year and do no see a mention of it.
It might be easier to use as an add on to obtain PM section to AC, rather than reinventing the wheel.

Hi Wendell.
I'd like to know more about TotalMD as well. I terminated my agreement with my billing service and would like to do my billing in house. I am leaning towards Medisoft since V 15 comes out 3/2/09, but I am open to other PM programs as well.
I'd appreciate any suggestions. Do most of you outsource your billing to a company or have a biller on staff?

Use Medisoft since we started in 2001 - actually is more difficult to switch practice management than EMR I think - if you want to change you have to set up new clearinghouses, new agreements for electronic billing, etc. I don't use x-link due to cost and I don't think it takes much to double enter. We actually use a separate superbill at check in - I circle office visit, procedure code, write in diagnoses and my office manager enters into Medisoft - same way since 2001 and it works well.

I currently use MTBC, the billig back end that is associated with AC. I swithched because my previous biller was not doing a good job (he was a medisoft distributer and we switched from in house to him because of persistant problems with medisoft). Previously my system worked very much as Steven's, except they would stop by to pick up the encounters.
Now we just upload a file daily to MTBC.
It seems to work well, but I have a lot of IL Medicaid and they have not been paying for months, which makes it difficult to see how effective they really are.
If AC is going to add a PM system it would be nice if it already existed and it just needed to be fine tuned. Even if we paid $99 for the basic module (didn't seem to need the other add on's for the more advanced modules) it would be useful. But ... does it work, it it helpful, ect.
