Is there anyway to enter a new patient's gender without leaving the keypad and using the mouse?

I don't think so. I had this same suggestion once, but no one seemed to really care, lol.

My programmer looked at this and said it is very difficult to do given it is hard to make a tab for radio buttons. He could be wrong, but he is rather good, so I figure if he can't do it, then...

He didn't seem to say it was impossible.

You're right about the "nobody seems to care". Maybe it's because we're not the ones usually entering the info. Anyway, thanks for clearing that up for me.
