I am trying out Vipre, a new antivirus/antispyware product from Sunbelt. When Vipre is active on my desktop, which holds my mdb files, AC loads and runs very slowly. When I turn off Vipre, AC does fine.

When Vipre is active, AC on other computers on my network runs just fine, even one that also has Vipre on it.

I wonder if Vipre is slowly down the data read/writes to the mdb files, but why slow down the start up? When I disable the feature in Vipre that tells it to "check" files when read or copied, it made no difference.

Any similar experiences or ideas? I'm about done w/ my free trial of Vipre, and cannot use it if it continues to slow me down like this.

I heard from AC support once that AV software can slow down AC. You'll probably have to add AC to some sort of trusted programs list. I'm not sure how you would do that since I've never heard of Viper... vipre? I read viper your whole post.

Did you add it for both the server and client computers? Try that, then perhaps ask AC support to remote in.

I guess we're all hoping ver. 4 fixes little things like this.
For me it's the reminder box taking a quarter minute to load.

Victor,

I have no experience with Vipre. The simplest solution would be to just use another AV product such as AVG, which is very good.

This is another good argument however for a client/server or at least for running the datbase folder on an unused computer. Then you don't ever have to load AC nor do you have to use it.

How much RAM is Vipre using? Some AV solutions such as Trend Micro (at least the server version) have a real time check with runs in the background all the time. This can take up resources as well.

Why not purchase or build a small computer with a good Dual Core processor and 2 to 4 GBs of RAM and just let it run AC and any other key program/databases you have?

HTH
