I may be the only one that does not know this, but in a search of the forum, I did not see mention of this tip.

If you close your note inadvertantly and lose it, it is possible to recover it as long as you don't open any other notes/charts. (now that I write this, maybe I DID read it somewhere here- where did my previous brain go?) but to continue.. so, if you realize you have closed the note and lost it, don't open anything else in the program. Go to the AC folder and look for lastnotebackup.txt- open that and you can then copy/paste what you need. apologies if this is redundant.

Thanks, Carla. This has been a major issue with me and I have lost several notes. I am tickled to learn of this ability to recover it.

Carla,

Nothing wrong with redundancy. The last note backup feature, should automatically rebuild your note. You should get a window telling you this. Keep in mind that the last note feature is saved on the LOCAL computer and not the server, which is good because there is way less change that someone will overwrite it.

One more suggestion on this topic (I've just come from the yahoo group practiceimprovement with some "cross-over members" from this group. One more option for a deleted/lost note is to open your deleted messages mailbox and the note should be there- you can forward it back to yourself. I have not tried this one myself but that would be an even better solution as it is formatted in the official note style- not a text file. Will only work if you have not closed AC which then dumps the deleted mailbox contents.

Bert- thanks for the heads up on where the lastnote feature is saved- I was not aware of that- now I won't go crazy looking for it in the wrong place.

Unfortunately, I don't typically realize that the file was not saved until AFTER I have opened someone else's file.

I just had to use this feature and in the process found something that MAY be worth sharing. You don't need to "forward" the chart to yourself from the deleted box; there is a button to "Retrieve" it. It comes back in full format.

I told you I had to use this feature a lot. Please pass the Namenda...

I find that this could be a potential problem. It seems it would make more sense if you had to choose to delete the deleted items folder the way one deletes them in an email program. Outlook gives you the preference.

It's funny how I learn things from my staff. Bruce is correct in that you can retrieve the deleted progress note or whatever you delete by just using the "retrieve" button. I used to then go back to the dropdown arrow, then select my inbox to get back to my messages and the retrieved note. Easy enough, but it is simpler with only one step by clicking on the green messages box on the top left. It's a huge icon and is hard to miss. Ironically, if you click on Check Email, you only refresh the deleted items.
