There is a setting in user preferences where it will automatically clear deleted messages after a set period of time.
Some time ago I had my deletes cleared and it speeded things up tremendously, I now have it set for 1 year
I have found that often I have charts that were not completed and periodically have to troll the deletes to find them
How did you determine the number of deleted items?
