Again, I am reluctant to discuss compensation issues now. At a different time, I could respond to several of Bert's points.
My experience is that physicians see GI's as wildly overpaid proceduralists. Perhaps there is an element of truth to that. Again, a topic for another day.
On the other hand, I would like you to understand - as should your patients - two things:
1. Without denying that some of the fees associated with a colonoscopy are unconscionable (and some are just way too high) ... Some of them can be significantly reduced or avoided
and
2. Whatever that final cost... your GI is the one you see, and hence the one you might picture as the major recipient of those fees, but that is far from the truth.
None of this may matter any more as I suspect we will see a major revamping of the medical system once we are on the other side of the pandemic. Like them or hate them, colonoscopies with indications like Bert's may become a thing of the past.
