Almost all software support's first question will be what version are you on. I don't even think AC supports that version anymore. The first thing I would do would be to upgrade from v5 to at least v8.2.4. I wouldn't upgrade to v9 yet as that may throw other things into the mix.
I think you have to upgrade to a newer version in between. Did v5 use SQL 2005 or 2012. I thought it was 2005.
What do you mean by he copies the data manually? This has me fascinated.
Besides the fact that 8.2.4 has infinite improvements. v9 even more, but it already has some issues with backups.
