On one of my last posts from way back when, I informed everyone that I was working as a contractor at General Electric Global Nuclear Fuels. During my tenure there, I got to play with the Dell PowerEdge VRTX. This is an awesome machine.

* 5U rack mount chassis

* 4 Blade servers each with 128G of RAM, 2 eight core procs, and two 15,000rpm SAS drives.

* 25 hard drives for shared storage, each 15,000rpm 600G.

* Dual Perc 8 controller cards each with 1G cache.

* Built-in 10G switch

* 4 redundant power supplies

Total cost with all the software (Windows and SQL Server): $85,000.

I thoroughly enjoyed setting those puppies up with Windows Hyper-V clustering and SQL Server in-guest clustering all for high availability.

Unfortunately, all good things come to an end. Our contract with GNF has ended. So you guys get to put up with me once more.

Let the good times roll!
