Re. Rogue Windows 10 Install:
I too had several computers with the annoying notification to install Windows 10. One of my computers actually started doing it, but fortunately I was able to abort it. I went for a couple of months without doing any windows updates on that machine. The culprit reportedly is Windows Update KB 3035583. If you ever see it on your list of available updates, right click on it and left click to hide it. Microsoft seems to send that update out again every 2-4 weeks or so; be vigilant.
Fortunately, after quite a bit of research, I came across a program that will nuc the Windows 10 updates, but will still allow you to install it when you are ready. The program is "GWX Control Panel". Do your own due diligence (Google it), but I strongly recommend installing and using it. It's free, but I found it so useful but I am going to send the developer a contribution nonetheless. I have installed in on eight machines and get no more Windows 10 notifications nor automatic "upgrade".
It is also recommended that you set your Windows Updates so that RECOMMENDED UPDATES are NOT downloaded the same way that you get IMPORTANT UPDATES. It is generally safer to not set the windows updates to download and install automatically, to avoid what happened to John Howland.
Another issue that you can run into if Windows 10 automatically updates is that if you have older peripherals (scanners, printers, etc.) for which no windows 10 driver is available, you'll need to buy new peripherals. That's exactly what happened to our IPA executive director.
I would appreciate Indy's thoughts on GWX Control Panel.
