I just reread the entire thread. Am I m issing something. Does it say Reader anywhere. No, Adobe would help you with Reader. It's free and doesn't come with support.
Yes, you can make any PDF program the default. I don't think you can make it the default specifically for AC.
But, there are tons of Adobe Acrobat knock-offs out there. CutePDF, Foxit, etc.
