The specifics of the gent involved are privileged, but the basic issue is moving a four provider practice from 6.3.3 to 8.2.4 in our managed environment. We doubled the assigned cores and allocated an additional 50% RAM. That has made it usable, but still slower than 6.3.3.
The plan is next upgrade SQL Express to 64bit. Next stop after that will be full SQL if necessary.
Once the filmmaker edits it down I will make my upgrade presentation available, but there is a truism that I use now - the more the users, the more challenging the upgrade. Not because of the upgrade itself, but getting back to a level of performance that users will accept.
