Was able to successfully send first controlled substance prescription yesterday.
Unlike regular e-prescribing, this can't be done through AC directly, but you have to go into Newcrop from the e-prescribing screen. On the e-prescribing drop down menu you choose "manage via Newcrop screens" and do it from there.
One caveat: all of the medications in the patient's med list (on the regular prescribing screen) must have both a sig and a quantity present. If even one is missing, it won't let you get to Newcrop. The only way I could find to correct this was to fill in the missing information (sig and/or qty), then click on Prepare and then Prescribe; at the next screen, instead of sending any of these, just close out and go back into the writing prescriptions screen. The info you entered is now preserved in the list and you can go on to Newcrop. Maybe there's a better way to do this, but I haven't found it yet.
On Newcrop there is a fair amount of clicking and selecting, but ultimately when you have figured out what to select and click on, and do it correctly, you get to the two-factor identification part, and you enter your Verizon UID password and the one-time code that you get from the app (or text or however you set it up) and it should work. I was amazed that it did, and the pharmacy confirmed that it went through.
