As an aside - you do not have to sign up with a REC, they are an organization funded by the government that is designed to help you achieve meaningful use. You don't give any data currently to the government (I don't know for how long) - you report numbers, not pt. data.
I unfortunately believe in state vaccine registries and HIE - anything that allows me to provide good care - how many patients say I have an allergic reaction to some med ? Pt. feel no obligation to provide any information and feels - "it is in my record" they do not bring any meds from other doctors, and make me hunt to find out aything. Many do not even know who did their colonoscopy - I tell them I would at least want to know someone's name if they were doing that to me.
