Hi Bill,
In Adobe 9, go to Edit --> Preferences --> Internet (on the left hand column).
At the top make sure that "Display PDF in Browser" is checked. If it is, then your PDF should open up in AC. That would also give you the option to right-click and choose open in native application.
It has been a few days since I checked the posts on this. I tried your fix and it works great, so thanks Burt.
