that box below is entitled "Quick Reply", which is what I was referring to.
The typing thing: I am starting to think this is a problem with IE8 or a computer thing, because it is not occurring right now, and previously IE was taking an extended time to switch tabs when the typing delay was occurring. I know, I never had used IE, preferring FF, but my tech guy said <blah, blah, blah> .....
