In one office we use windows fax to receive faxes. The faxes are saved to a folder on the desktop and the med rec person reviews them daily and distributes them electronically. We do have a brother machine in this office but the windows fax setup both predated it and worked well so we did not mess with success. I use paperport to sign and return by winfax things that need to be turned around. We use cutePDF to print to PDF.

In the other office we use the brother fax saving only to computer and paperport. That works well as well. There are 2 scanners at each office, one an industrial Fujitsu for bulk scanning the other a scansnap for copies of outgoing correspondence and mail that needs to be saved.
