Over the past few days we have had the fairly sudden onset of slowing of AC, almost entirely related to various aspects of the medication module; entering them, prescribing, modifying the list. AC support says we need to upgrade ("this is a known problem"). We have been on 6.09 since we went to V6 a year ago, and while I am willing to upgrade, I have been reluctant to do so without any clear impetus. I suppose this could be the cause, and we will likely go to 6.12, but I think it is odd that the problem would suddenly arise at this point. Any thoughts?
Jon,
We are currently on v6.1.2.
The prior version (6.1.1 I think), after several months, started having weird random errors, messages getting lost, freezing, etc. No precipitating factors for this. Solved by 6.1.2 upgrade, no problems since.
Not exactly your situation but perhaps similar?
Gene
We have an issue Jon where AC slows for no apparent reason, be it the medicine writer, orders etc (we are on 6.010).
We are running AC on a dedicated server running SBS 2008 with gigabit network cards, router etc. If I reboot our server, this solves the problem for a few days.
Wish I knew why this happens too
Marty,
We had this about a year ago with our old P4 "main computer" v5(.1.12????) Especially in mid afternoon, things would just get slooooooowwwwwwwww.... system wide, wired or wireless. Rebooting would solve this.
We switched to an i7 main computer, instantly solved.
This specific problem has not resurfaced in any of the v6 editions.
Gene
Well the problem is solved. We did a couple of things at once, so I can't be certain what was the fix. We found that a user (actually a "sham" user) had about 2500 messages in an inbox. When I tried to delete them all at once, the program would freeze. I freed up a bit of memory on that machine, the 2500 were deleted, and instantly speeds returned to normal across the network.
Thanks, Marty and Gene, for the input.
Jon,
Glad it worked out!
This serves as a reminder to periodically look for such stuff, for us deleted items and orders to reconcile can build up quickly and slow things down.
And just this morning I ran the "Optimize database" utility, and deleted old backups!
Gene
When I try and clear out my orders by highlighting them and marking them as all "Completed", I get the following error:
"Run-Time Error '91' Object variable or With block variable not set"
It then kicks me out of AC completely and I'm back to the desktop. I don't get this error if I do one at a time.
Wish I knew why this happens
Marty, are you running a 32-bit OS or 64-bit? How much RAM?
I am not sure if you can delete more than one order at a time. Could be wrong. We have never tried.
Gene,
Does getting rid of backups speed up AC?
Bert,
I do not think the old backups affect the speed of AC, but I believe they are included in the daily backup. So the offsite backup runs faster.
Gene
How would it run faster? I hope you don't mind my asking.
Marty,
I can highlight a whole lot of orders (like a thousand) and delete them all at once. I do this at the main computer. It may take 10 minutes, but it works.
Gene
Bert,
OK, it uploads faster. Our offsite backup probably takes 10 minutes or so to upload to the offsite, so after deleting it takes 9.92 minutes or so....
Gene
Ok everyone,
Let me introduce myself as over 50, and smiley challenged. In trying to keep up with Bert (always inadvisable), I tried to respond with 2 smiley faces. I tried to click and drag, but I could not get them to appear. So I finally googled "how to get smileys to work" and found a whole list of symbol combinations, but the only 2 that seem to work are the smile

and frown

.
2 questions:
Is there another way to do this on the ACUB?
Will others display?
Sorry for the ignorance of the topic, I probably just should ask my kids.
Gene
Showoff!!
Bert,
I think you're supposed to be able to highlight hundreds of orders and mark them as "completed" which in essence deletes them from the orders window.
Gene,
I was able to do it once but never again. We are running 32 bit XP machines, 4Gigs RAM, I've tried it on two machines and get the same problem. If I delete one order I am fine. I have not tried doing it on our server.
I remoted into our server and tried to do the same thing, same results. The server is a 64 bit w/ 4 gigs RAM running Server 2008
You bring up the orders- highlight the first one and then while holding down the CTRL you move press the left mouse button and move the mouse down to the center of the screen below the orders and move slowly back and forth - will scroll and select orders as they scroll. When you get to the bottom go over and select COMPLETED and then UPDATE ORDER. I do it regularly and it will act frozen for several minutes if you have hundreds (when I first did this I had thousands).
If I do it that way I get the same error Steven. I'm running 6.010. Guess I should upgrade. It's just a lot of machines....sigh

I do it a little differently than Steven, and while I sometimes would get a "not responding" message, the program would come back with the orders gone. I can't try it again now because we don't have a bunch of orders to be deleted, but I know it worked to do this:
Go to View...orders from the main AC page.
Select the top order, hit shift and then select the bottom one.
Hit the "completed" radio button, then "Update Order".
That deletes (actually "completes") the selected orders, at least in V6.09.
I sent an email to tech support as neither of these methods work for me
Let us know, Marty; I am curious what solution they will have for this. (I am guessing "more memory"

).
I use a 4 gb 32 bit "server" (Please don't tell Bert) - it works fine even on a 1 gb Windows XP machine - I think a very new beta will be released within a week and I would wait and try that as some of Marty's problems may be the version he has.
I did this last night and had a lot of orders and I left the machine doing its thing and came back several minutes later and it was done.
Uh oh. Someone just told me, Steven.
Marty and Jon,
You are correct. I was hitting delete instead of complete. I suppose for anyone where it doesn't work, make sure you are using Complete as Marty and Jon are suggesting.
Tech support says my issue is addressed in version 6.3.2.
I am sure it is. Let me know if you have Remote Desktop.
