@Bert,

There are two worlds in IT. Those who follow best practices and those who don't. Those who don't can be broken down into two basic categories:

* The IT person is some dweeb who thinks he's awesome at IT because he can get his World of Warcraft character up to level 60 in one weekend.

* Unreasonable budgeting constraints of the business/practice ownership.

You have patients that are sick because they won't take the time to read the label of some food before shoving it in their mouths or their parents are trying to save money by going to McDonalds and getting the dollar menu. In IT we have terrible setups because some IT people won't read the official Microsoft documentation before clicking Next, Next, then Finish. Or we have business owners that cut IT budgets because they truly believe that's the best way to save money.

Our worlds aren't that much different.

Yea that's through a visual studio subscription. There isn't a publicly available download link. You might be able to get access to it depending on what channel it's purchased from. Retail boxes come with SP1 or SP2. Eval center has SP2.

All true. The reason there isn't a publicly available download link for anything above Service Pack 2 is because SQL Server 2016 is already past mainstream support and isn't sold anymore. SQL Server 2019 is the new kid on the block. So, no, you will not get SP3 as a download via the public list.

I subscribe to Visual Studio just for these occasions and for many other reasons - the primary being I'm a developer along with being an IT Professional.

@JON "When it is easy to install and when I get to it, I will upgrade. When you start hearing about HIPAA fines to tiny practices because their software is 3 months past EOL, then let me know. Meanwhile, I have a practice to run."

JON, I agree with you, it is unlikely to get fined, I procrastinate on almost everything and I am no IT expert and hate the way the government comes up with all of these hoops we are to jump through and we spend time dealing with these instead of productively seeing patients. I am not saying the HIPAA police will be on your door step on that day just pointed out what the web shows COULD be possible penalties.

Have you read any of the CURES act? Only a bunch of bureaucrats and lawyers could come up with such jargon. Chris explained it well.

@James, good to hear from you, I know you are right in that you are an IT Specialist and I am no where near that. I don't have VM's and not sure what all you recommended! I know we have lost our main computer and it put us down for awhile and sounds like you could have had us back up and running quicker than it happened at that time. I do know that I have had good luck with support from AC when I ran into problems. The other thread for 11.1.4 Burt was able to set up a link to fix a problem. I, on the other hand, had this problems awhile back and had AC tech help. My local IT guy didn't want to mess with it and now seems like an easy fix.

With Tom being close to retirement and in Oregon and with AC support in RI, he could go in, try the update over the weekend or one evening and if didn't work get AC tech support the next morning at 0500 his time and be ready for pt's by 0800. Just a thought but this is what I have done in the past to be able to get tech support before pt's.

Very few of us are IT experts, though I have run across quite a few who claim to be, and who have let me down. Being pragmatic and something of a DIYer I have learrned something about IT, and have had help from Sandeep and others on this board -- that hardly makes me an expert, but I mostly manage my own network. It is hardly the finely tuned Ferari that I would prefer, but it works. AC has made that possible, and I don't think any other EHR out there could make the claim to be user-based and oriented to that degree.

The cost of IT has never been explicitly recognized by Medicaid, Medicare or the insurance companies. They just keep adding unfunded mandates, so we have to keep increasing efficiency read "see more patients in less time") to pay for it. With MIPS/MACRA we have reached the continental divide -- one way down goes to the corporate ocean, the other to the desert wilderness of independent practice.

Have you ever tried just calling support on the weekends with an issue with your install. I always get a call back within 15 minutes.

I always try early in the morning for the chat box but not sure that will help with the SQL server upgrade if they are taking appointments to just do the work.

I intended to tackle the install on Thursday. Have windows11 on my main computer. Discovered updated instructions dated 7/12/22 for the install that were much more complicated than the previous instructions and did not match Windows11. So, abandoned my plan to replace SQL, and am now inclined to pay them the fee and let them do it. My main motivation for getting it done is to be ready for the next version of AC, as I am still concerned about bugs in the prescribing module, and want to get off the current version of AC asap.
