At our front desk we need a scanner that can rapidly scan about 8 pages at a time, as well as periodic smaller jobs. About 10 years ago we bought a Fujitsu fi6130 and it has served us quite well. It is now a little creaky, thought the biggest issue is just very dirty scans. While we could embark on trying to clean it, I think we might just get a replacement.

I know some here used that Fujitsu, and others recommended a Fujitsu ScanSnap i500. The latter has been superceded by the ScanSnap ix1400 or ix1500 or ix1600. (It appears that speed is the major differentiating factor between the latter three).

Does anyone have a suggestion?
The good news is that it appears that this is one technology that has gotten a bit cheaper. The Fujitsu ScanSnap ix1600 is only $430 on Amazon at the moment.

Obviously, an easy interface with AC (and Updox) is critical.

We bought 3 of those Fujitsu 6130 10 years ago and 2 are still going strong! Do you clean the glass on it? It's pretty easy to open up and wipe the glass with an alcohol pad.

Thanks, Serene! About 10 minutes of cleaning, plus tweaking the contrast settings and the old Fujitsu looks great. For some reason I was intimidated by cleaning it, and that plus the age of the machine led me to think about replacing it. No need, thanks to you!

Have the same scanner-it's a tank. Also clean the rollers with alcohol swab-good as new. Update firmware and scan software too on Fujitsu website or use Online Update app that came with it.

When I found out that those black dots and lines on scans and photocopies just came from dirty glass.. doh! Now we regularly clean all the glass surfaces of the photocopier and scanners!
