I have been stuck on 10.0.2 for a long time. I never considered upgrading to 10.1.2. The latest non-beta version I believe is 10.2.
I would like to ask a couple of questions. First, is this the version which allows note-wide templates? And, second, which version had/has the issues with messages?
I know that version 11 is out, but I think it is in beta. There seem some nice new features. I would love some feedback from any of the beta testers. Specifically as it relates to messages and prescriptions. Looking through the release notes, the work flow through the prescription writing is different. I know, in particular, you have to select the pharmacy prior to selecting the med. Not sure if that is each time. Part of this is in response to our asking for the ability to delete or add pharmacies in that window, which only makes sense.

We had a lot of problems with version 10.2, almost to the point of quitting AC. The problem is, Windows 10 Professional kept advancing, but I believe the code at AC became outdated. My local expert tells me their .Net framework is about 4 generations behind. We started getting a lot of crashes with the Script Writer, almost every time it was opened. The team at AC apparently made code changes for V11, but I've yet to try it.

Don't blame you. Is 11.0 still in beta? It seems like only a few are beta testing it. Generally, I am happy with 10.0.2; there just always seems to be one feature that is needed. Like the universal template for a note.
11.0 allows changes of preferred pharmacies at the point of prescribing. But, the flow is different. But, soon it won't matter, because in the past you could write:
Amoxicillin 500 mg tablets 1 po bid for 10 days 20 0 refills
Now you must put the unit, i.e. 20 tablets
This will be a SureScripts rule.

I don't like having to put the unit. I've been doing 1 package for 6 years of refills on a patient, and the pharm intern just called and said I didn't specify how many. I'm amazed I get at the questions from pharmacists (can a 40mg be achieved by taking two 20mg?) They have a 4 year doctorate in pharm! But maybe we don't give them enough freedom legally!
The visit template saves me a ton of time, mainly on Annual Wellness exams and WCC.
Bert, it used to be even better:
Amoxil 500mg 1 tab PO BID #20 0
I remember my first script was as a med student. A surgeon handed me a pad and told me to prescribe something. Thought I was on top of the world!

LOL, I remember my first script. I was like, damn, I am a physician.
Yeah, 11.0 will force you to do the units. One thing that v10 does is if the script is an obvious liquid, it will enter milliliters (greyed out) as the default. I have to put 1, then change it in the message.
There are three types of pharmacists:
1. One that just sees the "issue" and doesn't fix it or care to 2. One that sees the "issue" but wants to change it but is afraid to 3. One like "Dave" (my favorite pharmacist) who will make those changes like you talk about.
Here Doxycycline hyclate will not be covered. Doxycycline monohydrate will. Some will make the change. Others won't. Same with 20 twice daily. Can we do 40 mg, 1/2 twice daily or vice versa? Frustrating. But, the pharmacy boards need to give pharmacists a lot more leeway.
The one that kills me (and I realize they have to ask) but I generally consider the SIG "stronger" than the DISP, i.e. Amoxicillin 500 mg 1 po bid Dispense 30
I think it is obvious I meant 20. Or there is a number there already like 1. And, I go to change to 20 but the one doesn't get deleted so it is 120. Obvious.
Which gives us two categories now:
1. The pharmacist who doesn't do anything 2. The one that calls right away and asks.

We are still on 10.0.2. Have seen no compelling reason to move on.

I don't either. Except for the progress note-wide template. I think that would be helpful.
