I'm trying to send an e-mail to everyone in the practice. I go to reports, select demographics > e-mail > contains "@" and get the list. I select all, create an e-mail, and hit send. I get a runtime error and it crashes. Outlook is working. Is there an issue with this feature?

David,
This is a bit different but a practice wide broadcast through Updox may work better. I have done that several times with ease. But I have never done it through AC as you describe.

Yes, Jimmie... but every time we do that, we get inundated with calls "I don't know my password", or "I can't get my message." My staff dreads it. I was hoping for a nice, simple bulk e-mail since it I am not sending PHI, and I can't do that with UpDox.

David,
I am not trying to be contrary, but observational. I have noticed some of what you describe after a practice wide broadcast, but more questions, and most with PHI involved, and quite a few appointment requests. So I have learned to do these not on a busy Monday or my nurse will have my hide. I will involve my nurse as she does the scheduling as well, and we work on the broadcast message together to simplify and address only one issue, such as the flu shots are in call or message for an appt kind of thing. Also I have found to not broadcast in excess, maybe once or twice a year, and those questions as you describe are a golden opportunity to catch those patients who can be trained to use the portal instead of phone.
This is not a lecture, but I am hoping to demonstrate to other AC users some of the lessons learned along the way. I realize, and very jealously admit heading to an island in the Pacific sounds fantastic, and want to relish in your sunshine a bit before you may no longer chat much on the user board, but will be soaking in the more direct rays of sun.
But I am worthless with a fix to your problem, and I hope you get it figured out.

Under ordinary circumstances I would agree fully, Jimmie; right now I just want to tell everyone our last day will be September 8th, so please get all refill and records requests in. Life is a little full at the moment to want to take on another IT instruction session.

David,

Drop me a line if you can't get it to run and we can help you take care of it.

We can do it as a Word mail merge (text or HTML).

Godspeed in your new endeavor!

Thank you all. I gave up, sent an UpDox broadcast, told my staff to reply "our IT support person is no longer with us, it was just a message saying our last day is Sept. 8th", and let it go. Guardian Angel support suggested I should upgrade to version 7 (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA).

Indy, I did download e-mail addresses into Excel, saved as comma delimited text and tried to paste into Outlook, but there were so many that Outlook choked and died. Sometimes it is easier to have a human deal with it than a machine.

Understand about humans vs. machines, but your first problem was using Outlook. {looks around to see if James notices} There are some great programs for mass mailing, but Outlook isn't one of them.

I like that solution, David.
I also got a kick out of the "upgrade to 7" idea... think how much easier your last 20 days of practice would be with the latest version.

Please be sure to keep in touch with us from your new destination. I know it is far, but if Leslie can stay in contact from Epic-land, then you can reach us from Saipan.
All kidding aside, best of luck to you and your family, and please do drop us a line periodically.

I will check in for sure. There will be a whole new EMR that I can learn to hate. I will be delighted to whine with friends.

Jon,

Sometimes, when using Epic, I think I am in a strange place smile
Best of luck, David. And if you end up using Epic, holler at me between clicks.
