Dan, Thanks for all your help on the XP issue. Nothing like waiting to the last minute, but decided to get 12 professional grade windows pro 7 dual i5 core beasts to replace the old ones for the office. My partner Dr Mel found the lowest prices on Newegg after I had ordered from Tiger Direct, but Tiger Direct matched the prices. I am glad Tiger Direct did that or Dr Mel would have put that Greek wrath to use.

The fun part is setting up all the software and customizations on those 12 computers.

Since it is an XP thread...what about running Lytec in an XP virtual machine behind Windows 7 Pro, where lytec is only used to collect patient demographics and make patient schedule. Think there is a concern since not going out into cyberspace anywhere with Lytec?

Think there is a concern since not going out into cyberspace anywhere with Lytec? The big issue is the internet. If you are running a virtual machine and turn off the internet interfaces, you should be fine.... BUT Do you need to connect into AC? That would require a NIC (interface card equivalent) Do you need to connect to update lytec (ditto) Do you need to send out information to the clearinghouse (againg, ditto) Likely, you need an internet interface/NIC equivalent. If that is the case, you are at risk.

The doc I'm assisting got an email from AC on Feb 24, stating that AC will not support Win XP and/or Server 2003 as a "main" or "server" computer after Apr 8, since these will no longer be HIPAA compliant. Does this mean that "client" computers running Win XP still be OK, since there are no AC data on those computers?
I've read stuff that it's probably OK if no internet connection, but also read other stuff that as long as data is "sent" to the "client" computer with Win XP for display and editing, there is a risk, and not HIPAA compliant at that point.
Any opinions on keeping the Win XP "client" computers after Apr 8 and still be HIPAA compliant?

If they are connected to the local area network, they are probably to the internet. This would then be an attack vector and YES, they are at risk.
While I know of no details, I have heard that soon upcoming versions of AC may not run properly on XP. This would be the final blow.
You should be ready to upgrade in the immediate future if not right now.

Thoughts about modifying tcp 6 under network settings properties so that it can connect to network but not to Internet

Thanks, guys. It's probably easier for the doc to upgrade the "client" computers to Win 7. I'm not really familiar with TCP v6 (capabilities, operation, setup, etc) but will start looking into this too.

Set the IE Proxy to 127.0.0.1 then firefox and other browsers will work. Set the computers DNS settings to 127.0.0.1 and you block all browsers and email programs. Unless the user knows the IP address of the site the wish to visit they won't get anywhere outside the local network.
