Sandeep,
I noticed in another thread about routers that you recommended D-Link or Cisco switches. What about Netgear switches?

Personally, I would be hesitant to use D-Link anything. I am a Cisco/Linksys guy. Netgear makes very good stuff as well. I also highly recommend managed switches.

Bert,
Thanks for your input. I'm a solo practicioner seeing primarily Medicaid. Low budget. Besides I enjoy working with computers, etc.
I'm looking at smart switch. My cable router links to Sonicwall firewall and I want the switch after that to go to my exam rooms.
TIA,

Come to Maine for two years, and you will get rich with Medicaid.

Hmmm. I knew a pediatrician in SC, Roy Furr, who would only see Medicaid pts due to the fact that he was working in an underserved area. He built a greater than a half a million house.

Hmmm. I knew a pediatrician .... only see Medicaid pts ..... built a greater than a half a million house. Three possibilities 1. 10 patients an hour and a little coding magic 2. One hell of a limit on his VISA card 3. Married very well, very well indeed! Personally, I like the third possibility. ;-)

I like the third one too, but right now when Medicaid is paying more for a 99213 without a copay than the private insurance companies and is paying even more than the private insurance companies for well child and their turnaround time is faster, and they pay another $50,000 a year for Pay for Performance/Availability, you tend to do OK. Again, so far this will last only two years. But, not the availability.

Exactly. That's why he only sees Medicaid. He has a good gig and has had that for a while.

Netgear switches are great too. Lots of them come with lifetime warranties. It all depends on how many ports you need. I would recommend different brands at different levels. E.g. Cisco on the high end, monoprice on the low end. For example, Monoprice's 8 Port Gigabit Switch is $25. It's hard to argue with $25 especially when you look at how amazing the user reviews are. I actually bought one just to test it out. http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...104&p_id=7857&seq=1&format=2With so few ports, it's pretty hard to mess that up. 9-24 range, I would look at D-Link, Netgear, Cisco SMB. 24+ Cisco SMB Switches (Smart) or SG300 Series (Full Managed). Then there's also people who need PoE and things like that.
