Hi Bert,

The fax is configured in the server and account is made for all users (they only access with one main user account) but I can's seem to access it from the pcs. It is asking me for a modem which is a mainpine at the server...

Not sure where you are with it, but I installed XP Pro and set it up without an issue. Hopefully, Sandeep has you set up. Let me know. I can send JPGS or a video.

Hope so, 'cause I think I figured it out. Spent a good deal of time on it, lol. Did email, and I know he is very busy. We'll get it. Or, maybe you will, lol. As long as we learn from it.

Sent three videos. smile In the end, best to upgrade to WIN 7. Forget how many XP Pros there are. Funny, how I never worry about support ending, but it ends up affecting things.

Lol that why I kept asking him if had 32 bit XP clients above. I already knew it was incompatible with the Server 2008R2/SBS 2011 when I got my fax board a year ago. It's Microsoft's problem though. No matter what modem/board you use with integrated fax server and 32 bit clients would cause problems.

Follow up for Bert and Sandeep (and anyone else who cares)

I am now on AC 6.3.3 on SBS Essentials.
It has been an interesting journey, since I am not really an IT guy -- but I am living proof that it can be done. There are more parts to this than one might think -- just getting some of the printers to work is a challenge (still struggling with one Brother model), and associated programs like Quest interface and clearinghouse billing software are not always a snap to change over to the server.

The wireless still works just fine in the rooms -- faster than before. Wired is better, but not for patient interface (for me).

The setup seems to be much faster and more responsive than what I was using before. Time will tell if it eliminates the need for occasional server re-booting, network hangups, etc. that were troublesome in P2P; but I am quite hopeful.

Also, I assume that the server board, etc. will prove to be at least as robust and trouble-free as the "consumer grade" stuff I was using before, and which practically never failed.

So far, I am quite happy with this upgrade, and thank you Bert and Sandeep.

Tom

I am glad you are doing well. Trust me, the motherboard will be superior to other motherboards you have used in the past.

Printers can always be a pain. As much as possible install the print drivers on the server if the printer is networked. Try to always buy networked printers. It may seem contraindicated, but you install the print driver locally on the server. You then share it out and make sure you check the directory box. Sometimes it won't stay checked.

Now, any computer you go to can Add Printer, select Network, find the print driver on the server and with one click, it will install the driver which is already pre-configured for the networked printer or one shared from a computer. This will be the case if the client is 64-bit. If not, the 64-bit print driver will not be compatible with the 32-bit client. If there are any computers where you will need to install the driver that is 32-bit, then on the server in advanced, you will want to Add driver and install a 32-bit driver. This makes it easy for the client to find the driver.

That's good. At least you weren't trying to get a TSP800 printer to work on 6.09. smile

SuperMicro boards are renowned for their reliability. A no nonsense board with the bare minimum of I/O ports just like a Server should have.

The downside is sometimes you need more USB ports for printers or a mouse and keyboard if you're not using PS/2. I always grab one of these to go with it: StarTech.com 4 Port USB A Female Slot Plate Adapter (USBPLATE4)

Uses the motherboard's USB headers instead of some PCI/PCI-e card.
