Hi Chazli-

We are starting to plan ACUC 2012. Location and exact dates have yet to be determined but it's looking like ACUC 2012 will take place this fall (November-early December). Feel free to post any suggestions you have here or send them to me directly (josephine@amazingcharts.com).

Details will be posted as they become available, stay tuned...

Can we do the conference on the West Coast, or maybe at least mid-Country?

That depends on how much equipment they have I'm guessing.

Fly across the USofA in Nov/Dec?!?!?

Not that weather on the East Coast won't be balmy and mild, but fly-over country can be brutal (my upbringing was Colo, Missouri and Nebraska) and the risk of delays/cancellations is always there (used to attend ASN, always in late Nov / early Dec, and always Chicago or D.C., and always had travel woes).

Please strongly consider video conferencing/streaming of the conference. I know that may mean missing meeting other AC users, but heck we could gather in some of the UserGroup sites.

Think about it!

I think that is a great idea!!

Travel from Alaska to the East coast is more expensive and with more jet lag than for you East coasters to travel to Europe, and the conferences previously have fallen in the time of year (Summer) that makes it worthwhile to have put up with Winter in the north. Think how you would react if every conference you needed to attend was in Portugal, and held over your birthday. Nov - December would suit me fine. Videostreaming would be a good second.

Ok, David. You win. I am psyched for the next ACUC in August, in Portugal.
Or did I miss your point?

Maine is quite gorgeous in Nov/Dec. It typically runs 85-90 degrees, low humidity, plenty of beaches, and NEVER any snow.... smile

Hate to throw a wet blanket here, but every ACUC is preceded by a discussion like this. Proposals for geographic diversity, proximity to airports, exciting (and usually warm) vacation destinations, and cruises are bandied about. After lots of brainstorming, Jon B swoops in and says "I need to have extensive equipment and staff at the event, and so logistical and cost considerations mandate a conference in Providence". Exceptions are the initial ACUC and smaller, regional conference(s) planned entirely by users.
I would never presume to speak for Jon B, and he may feel differently now, but I thought some historical perspective was in order.
Please resume your fantasizing.
San Diego in November sounds nice to me.

Yea I mentioned that about the equipment. I've never been to ACUC, but I've seen the equipment being used from the facebook photos. Several desktops and monitors. I don't think it'd be very practical to fly all of that out.

I think AC already flies all over the country to be at various primary care meetings, so this shouldn't be a hurdle. It is usually easy to procure digital projectors from the conference venue; no need to reinvent the wheel.

Having alternating east coast/west coast meetings annually would be one way to start.

I'll bet that travel $ for AC personel plays a BIG role in the site selection. The equipment issue is not that big a deal, as John points out, but to get a lot of developers and support people to San Diego . . .

Hence the re-stating of the request to cosider seting up for remote viewing of the conference goings-on.

Cruise the Bahamas, Puerto Rico or Virgin Islands would be top considerations that time of year.

Of course for central locations Chicago (average high 35), Toronto (32 avg) or Edmonton (avg 21) are also in the running for fun spots to take a break on the beach (well, OK maybe not Edmonton) These spots would be equally lovely to arrive for everyone.

Then there's New Orleans.

Nice to dream, like Marty said, but remember, Josephine did say location and date were not yet determined. She did ask for ideas/suggestions.
I assume location was included?
No harm in seeing where this discussion leads.. brainstorming never hurt anyone:)

Although the list of candidates may be somewhat narrow, who knows if we might hit a home run. I agree that it's always nice to dream. Maybe we can come up with a great solution. That's the beauty of AC, at least they ask for input.

I think one of the unique things about AC, especially with those of us who frequent the ACUB, is that we (at least I) feel like I know many of you whom I have never met. I have also met many of you at these conferences and have struck up some very good friendships. Being able to not only learn AC at the conference but to socialize in a great locale means a bunch to me. We had a great time in Tahoe, saw some sights, ate some great food and drank some great wine. In my opinion, it is not all about the software. I personally would love to be able to combine a learning experience with a travel/social experience. I vote for a scenic area such as Park City Utah in the winter (Salt Lake is a major hub for Delta) or a cruise, perhaps leaving from New Orleans (which in and of itself is a great city).

I would love California or Utah or even skiing in Colorado!

Surely there are laptops and small projectors that fit on airplanes? Come on, it's done all the time at various CME venues.

I would never want to leave Alaska in the summer - it's like Paradise. But winter months would be nice in the South.

Bert, it sounds like Wendell was hoping for a Maine ACUC.

I am sure that Jon B and the company will make the case for DC as the site. I suppose if anyone is going to try to raise the level of enthusiasm about Washington, D.C. as a locale for the conference, it may fall to those of us nearby... the city of course is exciting with tons of historical and civic sites, as well as fantastic museums. Air access is pretty plentiful and relatively inexpensive (don't overlook BWI, which is a Southwest hub). And its only an hour drive from Baltimore!

So it's a good choice, right?

OK, we might try to make it if that weekend is not too overly stuffed with Hockey Commitments for our son usually the "Starting Goalie" so its really hard to get away for a full weekend once the season is started....

But here's my question Are the NY Rangers gonna be in town that weekend playing your Crapitals???? And if so how much are modest but near center ice seats? That our somewhere near the visitor's net for periods 1 & 3??? I just might even bring my son for that...

Now all we need is a nice place, park or backyard, to build a nice hot fire at night and for Bert to put a good sized "Live Well" in his vehicle to drag down a few dozen Real Maine top quality lobsters and we're all set!!! I'll melt the butter...

Wow. I would have expected a few more posts than this. Likely not much over the weekend, and it will die off by Monday.

This says a lot for threads about SBS 2011 Essentials and i7 2600k processors.

Actually, I am open to where the conference could be.

Bert, with your knowledge, you could host a conference in your back yard or office and it would be great. Never been to Brewer.

Oh, got it. Actually, my computer knowledge is up there, but my guess is your overall knowledge is higher than mine. I would hope we are pretty close in pediatrics.

I do think Chicago would make a better conference than Brewer, lol. Although, we likely do have the most assessable airport.
