I've used both and liked them both. currently I use logmein basic, since I rarely need to remote print. If I do need to remote print, I just send out a PC fax from the remote computer. If I had to choose between logmein pro vs gotomypc I would choose logmein pro in order to support the concept of a limited free version, which gotomypc does not offer.

If you are spending for something, I would recommend LMI Pro, as it does things like monitor the actual hardware, and in at least one case we was able to catch the symptoms of hardware failure before the box dies.

That proved even more valuable as it is a practice that we support that none of us has ever stepped foot inside, so we would not have heard the tell-tale sounds, even if we had been there and it was audible.

All of my computers are on LogMeIn, a couple are pro, but most are free. This allows me to remotely manage them. That is NOT cost effective with GoToMyPC.

I too, like to support the free model.

We also pay for other services from LMI, agree with Ken and Wendell there; part of making the model work.

So, if you want to buy Pro - I'd use that Lic on the server, just so you get the most bang from your buck.

How much do you print or move files? Perhaps LMI free may be a good fit and thne there is a big price differential.

I tried GTMPC early on, it was OK, but that was a trial. I discovered LMI and never turned back. Used the free version but bought pro versions when they were on sale. Haven't looked at GTMPC in a while, not sure how it has matured in the last 4-5 years. LMI certainly has matured, and seems to keep on growing.

We have LogMeIn Free on all of our computers. It's great, no hassle for quick support/access. We use Remote Web Workplace for everything else.

We use RWW for everything. That's not a quote; just stating that we do. That's the nice thing about SBS. Why do you need LMI for all your computers. (Likely easier that way than teaching staff how to use RWW, not that it's hard?)

But, basically, we use RDC. Super fast. Super secure. No 3rd party, although LMI is pretty secure.

LMI is basically for me with the tech support. I'm offsite 95% of the time and if I need to teach the staff how to do something/fix something, I use LMI. That way I don't need to take over their computer with remote desktop, and they can follow along. I'm usually doing this from my phone with ignition. SBS has remote assistance too if you need to show people what you are doing, but LMI ignition works much smoother on my phone ha.
