What would be a good scanner to buy to use with Amazing Charts?

So nobody can advice on scanner choice?
I am moving from NexGen to Amazing Charts and trying to set up my solo practice. Right now we are using Fujitsu Fi-4120C to scan records into NexGen. Fi-4120C is an outdated model and is not longer available. Fujitsu website suggests Fi-5120C Sheet-Fed Scanner instead of Fi-4120C. I don't have hands on experience with Fujitsu scanners, so I just wanted to ask what Fujitsu models are used by other Amazing Charts users.

However, AC3 has a builtin scanner control function within the imported files section. THis is able to control TWAIN-compliant scanners. Many docs using AC for a while have used scanners that are direct-to-pdf output, double-sided scanners. Some are TWAIN-compliant and some are not. I bought a couple of Fujitsu Snap Scanners for my office staff, and they scan papers to their desktop pc's and then copy/import them into the right location in AC. The snap scanners are small footprint, fairly quick, modest price to buy and maintain, direct to PDF, double-sided and not TWAIN compliant. I have a couple of TWAIN very high end scanners and havent tried them with AC3's new feature yet. good luck! Geoff

Fugitsu scanners. We have a couple of them, works good, scans to pdf. Your old one I am sure will work. I would try them first before buying new ones.

There is a previous thread on scanners. Fujitsu scansnap I think is the recommended one.

I have a Scansnap but with the new TWAIN compliant Scan button in the import section, I think there must be some better options. Anybody have an inexpensive TWAIN compliant scanner with a small footprint? The ease of use for the staff to import from AC's screen will make their work easier and make the proccess a lillte more foolproof.

I am not sure if our Fi-4120C scanner is Twain-compliant. It scans each set of records to a separate batch. Then nurse has to sort batches to the patient charts. Does it sound like a Twain-compliant scanner?

Ours are not TWAIN compliant, but we still use them- Fugitsu scansnaps. Works fine.

Go to the fujitsu website. they have a couple of models that have a similar footprint and design that provide twain drivers, but are about twice the price of the scansnap.

Apricot, how did things work out with the fujitsu 5110C scanner? Would you recommend it to others?
Are you utilizing the TWAIN compliant features? I understand that it allows you to control the scanner from the computer. Can you (or anyone else) please tell me the advantages you gain from this?

Yes, my fujitsu 5110C scanner works perfect. Here is how I use TWAIN.
My nurse opens the patient chart whose records she is going to scan. Then she goes to Imported Items-Import New-Import/Control your Scanner. Then she selects TIFF, Multiple or Single Page and clicks on Scan Image. A new window opens, she selects Black&White, Letter size, clicks OK. All papers on the scanner tray are scanned one by one to a multi-page file. After all papers are scanned, a new window appears asking if we want to view our scanned files or save to patient's chart. We click on Save. Then anoter window asks to enter the item name (i.e. mammogram or CXR) and assign the folder (i.e. radiology, Lab. etc) After that the scanned item appers in the patient imported items.

Yup, pretty much the same process here. We are using a Fujitsu 5120c and I love it. The only thing that I thought about was the attached flatbed scanner (5220c?) but I'm very happy with the one we have. Almost every practice that I've visited use Fujitsu's and a lot are the 4100 series and still working well. I think it's a great investment for the office. Just today we recieved about 100 pages of a patient's past records and it was finished scanning, imported into the chart within 3 minutes.

I have used Fujitsu scanner but recently I bought a Zerox document 510. It cost $150. It works great. I would recommend it. For one thing, it uses USB not SCUSI. So it is really easy

I immensely enjoyed reading the advice on scanners from apricot, wcoghill, and scslmd. I purchased a Fi 5110 C from PCNations. But, I have one small problem. When I am scanning within AC, I did not get the option of Black&White. Per excellent directions of Apricot, I select Tiff, Single page and click Scan Image. A new window opens up, I select letter size, but no B&W. My only choices are grayscale and 4 bit greyscale. When I use the scanning software outside of AC, the Twain window gives me the full range of the B&W, greyscale, 4 bit greyscale, 1/2 tone, color, etc. I talked to Fujitsu tech support who said it was not their software. They said that somehow AC "filtered out the B&W option." I talked to Carlos of AC who did not know the answer and suggested I ask someone who is using a Fujitsu scanner. Any suggestions ?

Also I'll add the question of does anybody know how to "turn off" the HP extra software that I installed a long time ago and now launches itself when ever I try and scan something from a patient's chart instead of letting AC be the software? I'm not sure whether to remove it or not because it maybe connected to the driver that is running the entire printer, AIO. Thanks. Paul

I would like to know what AC verison others are using. For example, what version of AC candlecj, apricot, wogchill, scslmd are using? Carlos of AC suggested that the newest version of AC which I am using may be blocking out B&W option. Thanks

Carlos is right. Just moved my scanner no B/W option on version 3.18. 3.16 version works fine.

I'm using 3.18. Works fine. Oh, Hockeyref, I suspect that the only way to turn it off is to uninstall it. I know that sounds stupid, but that is the same problem that I had when I installed the Fujitsu 5110C. Actually, I think what you see on the screen would be the default s/w for the scanner unless you had s/w like you have installed. You can also install different s/w and possibly select that as a default. Try going into the control panel/scanners screen and see if you can select a specific s/w package to activate when the "scan" function is activated.
