Jeez. 5.1 is finally out and now we're gonna harass them about 6.0? They said it would be out 1st quarter this year so let's give them a few months.

For those of you brave enough to jump into the beta on day one, keep us informed about how it's going. I can hardly wait to download it!

Just don't install it until you test it!

At the risk of sounding cynical, AC, bless their heart, often seem to be optimistic about release dates, so......

Bert,
How do you test it without installing it? Or do you mean install it on a home computer or something?

Three ways:

Home computer is fine.

But, have a "sandbox" a computer you can play with at the office off the network.

The best thing to do is to get VMWare or another Virtual Machine so you can put it on YOUR computer and go back and forth, Plus...

Virtual machines are JUST cool!

Between JBS and John and Sachin and I, we could talk you through it. The OS you put on the virtual machine would have to be licensed. You can get free virtual machines, but I paid for VMWare (about $150) and had a WIN7 lying around.

The best part it the snapshots. Take a snapshot before you install, after, after importing patients, after or before doing anything. You can literally go back to that point in about 10 seconds.

Thanks Bert,

Sounds like something you would enjoy more than I would. I think I will try the home computer method. Anyway, let's not hijack our own thread. Can't wait to test out 5.1. The list of upgrades is so long I feel like a kid in a candy store.

Bert:

But the question referring to Phreesia pads was to see if anyone knew if it was talking to AC in the new 5.1 version. I wasn't trying to hijack anything (I am brown, but i don't do hijackings!!!).

So to rephrase the question, does anyone know if one of the updates in 5.1 is that it interacts better with phreesia.

Better? wink

Also, did anyone upgrade to 5.1 yet? If they did, was it just an install it and install the database tuner? They don't have instructions for it on the website, just for going up to V5.

Ketan,

I wouldn't know what to do if I didn't give you a hard time, lol. I didn't see it mentioned in the list. I would ask support.

I just installed it and ran the database tuner but not on my production network.

Jon has never had step by step instructions on the installation of a particular version. I have always found that frustrating. Do you install over an old version? Do you uninstall and install clean? Etc.

I just install over it all. Right now on that page that has the beta version, there is step by steps for going from 3 or 4 to 5.

I would love to ask support but you know what the answer i will get, and then i will just bitch and moan on here! lol. . .

I am holding off on updating right now.

Hey Ketan!

Thanks for the tip on the install over it. I never do the small updates (still on 5.0.28) for that reason.

You don't bitch and moan, just bitch, lol. I agree with you, I am just testing for now. Dying to use it, but I am sure there will be three or four more betas before the full release.

Bert,

You have to move to 5.1.....there most likely has been 3 or 4 betas already. Just take the plunge - you can't stay on 5.028 forever.

Played with it extensively at home for about 4-5 hours, trying to find a flaw. I did not. I have to agree with Steven, this is a later beta. It seems very stable. Thus, I installed this AM before starting in the office (I have 1100 to 1900 hours today)

Don't have an iphone so...

It does presumptive promting on the dx, unclear why it choses what it does, but it overall works. (Routine child v20.2) did not pop up on routine but the other "Routine" codes did.)
I can now put cc's in the quantity box. There is a nice section at the bottom to tell you there is a problem with the state or quantity or such, it is in plain English. Without closing the Rx box, you can correct the demographics and it is updated, nice. Allows, in theory, the ability to print a Rx without the office demographics, but this did not work. I was looking for a workaround for when I use Medi-Scripts rxs (I rarely do, almost all is eprescribed.)

Overall nice additions. Will give updates as I discover more. Now, back to work.

This is the 5th beta and even 5.1.4 has been a good stable beta. AC did a great job this time with how they did the release.

So, will there be a final release with some changes or fixes?

There may be but there will always be a "fix" to a glitch - that explains Microsoft patches. Beisdes that how can you help people with whatever glitch they find if you don't have it up and running.

Go Bert, Go Bert, Go Bert -- I triple dog dare you (thinking maybe I can taunt you into upgrading).

When I upgrade, do I upgrade over the existing AC on my main computer (is this easy to do).
And then I presume that I need to update all of the other computers as well...Right?
Anybody have a guess as to the number of versions until a final version is released? Or prediction when the final version is released.
If I do download the beta version and for some reason want to go back to the 5.0.29 canI do this (easily), without messing up the data

Rolling back much later is not easy and you would most likely lose data - I think once you upgrade and try the new version you will not want to go back - AC did about 5 betas of 5.1 before releasing this one - I think it is pretty stable and you will really like it once you load it up and run it.

The thing about rolling back is you are no longer on the AC train if 5.6 or 6.0 comes out. You will always have to make a big leap.

Steven, I know you have worked with the Betas, but betas are betas for a reason. Are these going to just be install and keep updating with each new version or is their a final release?

Historically in the past when a beta was released in the past it was pretty much the one Jon released later on. I don't know when he will call it the final release - I know in his post he said it was for new customers and people who signed up for support. I know that I used the beta version every time he released them for years in the past, but he said that he now does a lot more controlled beta testing than in the past. I remember once when there was a beta years ago he released a patch within days because of bugs.

But, when the final release comes out, I want to upgrade to that, so I don't want to upgrade three times. It isn't the easiest thing to upgrade plus one is dealing with patient information which I don't want to screw up. So, like all software, I prefer to wait on the final release.

I understand - I don't know when he is going to call it final. I just can't wait for new things to use/try - if you can be patient then great.

Well, the other thing is my playing with it on the "sandbox" machine. I don't like introducing a new version unless I know enough about it to answer questions for my staff.

I just downloaded 5.1 on my home computer and opened the prescription renewal window which looks cool. It should be a great enhancement. Unfortunately, I went to close it so I could check out some of the other new stuff and it won't close. Stays on top of the main AC window. Had to close out of AC entirely. Happens every time

I reposted this here so I could see if anyone else had this problem.

Lots of different experiences - Bill you should ping guardian angel support and talk with them about this. It needs to be fixed so it works for you and these issues need addressed. I had an issue with install and they fixed it and made a note of it happening so they can address it for everyone.

Installation and use has gone very smoothly for me. I did not have a problem closing the program after installation.

This upgrade came simultaneous with several microsoft and adobe updates and I did all of them progressively. Now all the updates and patches are set for all of the computers. I do one office at a time. I might not do the other for several weeks, since I am solo in this office I can deal with all the problems. The other office has my NP and I have to be prepared for any questions and problems.

This was probably the smoothest update I have done since sometime in version 3.

I do like the features in 5.15, I found a couple of minor bugs but they are not production stoppers.

Beta's are not for everyone. When you are working in a live environment you have to accept that you might damage your database. Never happened to me, I have ton's of backups and I will decode the new backups to make sure they work.

Bert is appropriately conservative and waiting until he knows things are stable. If I remember correctly, he didn't upgrade to V5 for about 5 or 6 months. This is not a bad course of action.

I prefer to be on the cutting edge and take the responsibility that I could have problems. To each his own. 4 hours of playing with it on my home machine convinced me it is a minor evolution, albeit with some nice additions, not a major transition and that I could not make it fail. Bert requires 4 months, so be it. Nothing wrong with that. THIS IS BETA.

The cool thing is that Bert can't stand not knowing every nuance of Amazing Chart so he will have to learn 5.1 on his virtual machine while he runs the other version on his office. It will be fun for him to have to make every answer for every question in both 5.029 and 5.1.5 answers (just kidding).

How does routing of refills work in 5.15? Specifically, if you have a PA, do refills of drugs they initially prescribed go to them? Further, can you address the requests easily on days off?

Would someone please do me a favor in 5.15:
Go to the eprescribing dropdown menu. Open up "pending renewals". Now try to close the window by clicking the little x in the top R corner. Did the window close?

Yes, Steven I will speak to the Guardian angels. But while I had time on the weekend I ran the repair wizard ie reinstalled 5.15 and now the whole thing is shot. Can't find the database. All I can say is I am glad this is on my home computer and not on the office data base. I am now dead in the water until Monday just to test out the new version. Be careful out there, folks. It IS a beta.

Update #57.
So I ran the repair 2 more times and now I am back to where I was before. It is working but the pending renewal screen freezes. So..my initial question still stands. Is this happening to anyone else?

My 5.1.5 had an error which AC said had happened to one other user in which the DLL's had been unregistered. It was unable to find the network and I had to run a particular special program in AC as the standard utilities would not repair it - I hesitate to announce the program as it may not apply - if this was happening in your production computer I would say to call Guardian Angel Support and tell them it is an emergency and they would call you even on the weekend. The pending renewal screen works fine for me.

Unregistered .dlls happen a lot in AC. I just look at the known error list and then register them.

Ketan,

Thanks for the vote of confidence. It's not so much I am worried about this version -- just that I hate changing to the newer version right away. smile

There is a program called registeritall.bat in the AC directory which fixed the error when my program could not find the main AC directory.

I just lost 5 hours loading, then unloading 5.1, then reloading 5.29.

There seems to be a problem loading onto 64 bit machines and also losing the database registry(???) known about since last week.

I wish they would have posted that.

I thought that I had held off long enough , but I should have waited a little longer.

So goes the world of beta.

I hope they clear this up soon, complete meaningful use and get the pm done.

Just my Christmas wish, Santa.
