The longer I use AC, the more surprised and pleased I am when I begin to utilize on of the many features that I hadn't integrated into my routine.
The latest has been the letter to print to the patient before I close the note and then the letter to the referring doc afterward. The patients love having a written copy of their instructions which is conveniently also my plan. I use asterisks to bring attention to items that haven't been formally ordered but need their attention-appts, lab visits, etc. Really helps patient flow.
The letter to the referring doc is also very nice because I can cut and paste from the note, or just write a brief note of explanation of the referral. The specialists are very appreciative. It's wonderful that a copy of the note prints out with it. In the letter to the specialist my staff has learned to look for "I am including a med list, recent labs, etc" so these go with them at the time of the referral.

We use the letter for patient instructions too. I don't know if our patients like it, but Alice sure does. More documentation that she told the patient to do x,y z.

The letter writer can also generate a med list - either the list at the last appointment or the current medication list - this is particularly good if you use plain English to enter instructions - you can easily make a list for patients - they find it easier to have 1 tab twice daily instead of 1 po bid.....
I also use it for hospital admits of my patients - admission template with current meds. I log on from the hospital - bring up AC and do orders, fax signed orders to nurses station. This also keeps good records at my office for the fact that I did an admit if the hospital is slow to send dictation.

I use logmein.com - free version. Then almost anywhere I have web access I can log in, use AC to generate admit orders, etc and then use my outgoing fax to the place I am at.

I use RDP, which I find unusual that the hospital allows this, but then this is the same hospital that allows one access to the System32 files, Windows files, Registry files, etc. Kinda dumb.

I have remote access working on my iPhone! It is slower than a real keyboard, but I always have access. Wireless if it is available or 3G! Amazing.

I use Logmein paid (it prints). It blows the nursing staff away when I do my "typed" notes in a few minutes that are much more accurate and suscinct than anything else in the chart.

The patient's expectation is that you have all the answers, sometimes they just don't like the answer you have for them

Martin,
Promise me you won't be checking refill requests on your IPhone while riding your motorcycle!
