Hi Dariusz,

I am using VMWare Workstation. Tried the free Microsoft's PC Virtual Machine or whatever they call it, but I love VMWare stuff.

Like Word, I probably use 10% of its capabilities. I know an IT guy who has 24 different OS on his. Crazy.

VMware is excellent and has a good interface and frequent updates. I have also used Virtual Box by Sun, which is also easy to set up, runs well, and is open source & free.

Virtual machines are the coolest thing of all time. I can't wait to use HyperV, but I am still a level below that.

QUESTION:

HAS ANYONE TRIED EPRESCRIBING IN A VM. MINE ALMOST WORKS THERE, BUT IT DOESN'T QUITE TO.

Sorry for shouting, but I want to make sure I don't waste anymore time. The holidays suck for IT people 'cause Tech Support isn't opened.

Boy, I have no life.

Has anyone be able to e-prescribe with the new system (beta) to Caremark or Med-co?

Medco and caremark hide theirs - difficult to find, I did find Medco in nevada once, but it was missing this am when I tried to find it. They do not want electronic - it costs them and they don't care that it is inconvenient to us.

Although I received my activation code right away, I found that the pharmacy is still receiving them by FAX. Has anyone had to wait over a week for this to switch to full electronic?

If you look in the Interfaces section, it should say Active. Mine says Inactive. I have had several tech supports try. Craig has been great, but no go. One tip. All users have to be active, supposedly.

I just got a call from Tier 2 tech. I will let you know.

I spoke with Tech_Support (Claire was it?) and although entering the code, a message comes up "your account is now Active", the interfaces section continues to show "NewCrop interface is INactive."

We surmised that with the "FREE" eRx, it may remain as "inactive", but I guess they didn't really know. The scripts ARE going through, and I've had the pharmacy FAX me one back. It reads "This was sent by NewCrop....yada yada blah blah blah".

But they are still going through as FAXes from NewCrop.

edit: except a script I sent to a nearby Walmart yesterday. The patient phoned me today saying Walmart never received it, and I confirmed this with Walmart. I actually HOPE that was just Walmart's goof up.

OK, I called NewCrop. I figured Bert is handling things on the Amazing Charts side smile

In the "pharm log" of the newcrop screen, the failed transmission had no entry--not for success NOR failure. He suggested that I "monitor" the transmissions. I guess V5 beta is a BETA afterall; there are bound to be some wrinkles. Sure hope soon I won't have to monitor script transmissions.

Also noted that the "transmission status..." selection in the drop down menu of AC5beta prescribing window has not been finished yet, so it doesn't do anything.

Back to you, Bert smile

Addendum: wait, let me steal the microphone for a minute: Walmart just phoned me and ,wouldn't you know, they just received two FAXes for the two scripts I e-scripted to them yesterday afternoon. That's quite a delay, but they admitted they had been having "problems with the phones" at the pharmacy....

Don't get me started on Wal-mart. They can open clinics there, but they can't afford a REAL fax machine. They actually have a HOME model. If you call their fax number, it will act as a phone line. If it is a fax, then it goes through as a fax. So, anytime, someone calls the fax line, it can tie it up for up to 45 seconds or so.

I won't even fax to Wal-mart anymore. If it's a Medicaid patient, I just tell them we don't participate with them.

As much as I was against ePrescribe and that was only when it was done via the web, faxing scripts is so frustrating. Do you know how often a pharmacist actually tells us, "oh our mistake?" Yep, about twice in over a year. Today, a pharmacist said something like, "Oh we probably we threw that away because it looked like a duplicate." I understand that Cefzil tablets looks like Cefzil suspension, but it's your job to read the script. My fax server tells me exactly the time the script goes through, etc. I know that there may be times when they don't go through, but it can't be that many.

I wish someone would actually do a study and send 100 scripts from 20 offices to various pharmacies and see what the fail rate is WHEN the fax machine said it went through.

**************************
Now as to NewCrop. It shouldn't matter whether it is free or $100,000. It should say Active.

I must say that the "Ping" support is awesome. Not that they fixed it, but they tried. I have been holding now for over an hour for the phone support.

It must be the busy time. I called using the phone number in AC and got through to a NewCrop support guy almost instantly and without transfer. He was ready instantly to answer my questions. When I told him I was using AC, I kindof expected him to pass the buck, but he didn't, and he seemed very knowledgeable.

Well, I guess then this thing where AC tells me the interface is active but is unable to update the interface status screen is a bug.

What did you hear from Tech Support bert? you was gonna fill me in.

I heard a saxophone or a femur for about an hour and got disconnected. I don't quite understand, because if there is always someone there at the ping chat, why can't they answer the phone, or do they always do the same thing. Joe did call me today, but it was 3PM, so I said I would call back, which I have now done twice.

If I were anywhere near ready to go live, I would be very frustrated, but I guess I have a few weeks to get it going.

But, don't they just sit around for coffee and talk about the tough cases? I mean that is what we do. I don't call Adam, and tell him about the 2 year old with the ear infection.

So, I would think Tech 1 would be like, "Man, I remoted into Bert's computer for an hour. What the hell is going on with his ePrescribe? Nice VM though.

Tech 2. Oh, I had one like that. Just have to open AC.

Something like that.

Well, we just tried out the eRx for the first time. But we can't tell if the Rx actually went through. I went back and tried to pull up the transactions status screen, but it wouldn't come up.

Wayne,

Just call the pharmacy. If it went through as a fax, it didn't work. If it went through as an ePrescribe, then it did.

The only thing to do is call the pharmacy and alert them to that you are testing your new eScripts. they were good about calling me back if need be to confirm receipt. There was some weirdness with my having entered my NPI no. with dashes between some of the numbers and somehow that prevented it from working and then AC tech had to call NewCrop and get them to activate me again.

You mean after the patient shows up to the pharmacy who tells them they never got it, then the patient drives all the way home and calls us. Geez, call from the pharmacy already.

I always tell them to have the pharmacist call; it's part of his or her job. And, since they won't take the cell phone...

I have had very good luck with e prescribing - I picked a pharmacy that I use often and sent one test scrip put in the comment to fax back that they got it or to call me. Only rarely does one not go through - sometimes it is the pharmacy's fault.

All in all - I get less call back from e prescribing than I did from fax and I know the faxes went through.

I think you meant opponent.

Actually, the only two reasons I didn't like it were 1) having to drill down to build a script -- which took too long, and 2) double entry.

Now, both are solved.

It really does work well now.
Once they get a provider up and running it is great.

Well Joe got mine going! It's always interesting when you are troubleshooting, and you finally find out you could have worked on it for days, and the problem was all with New Crop.

One thing that needs to be changed is get rid of the Interface message that says Inactive. From what I understand it has nothing to do with it.

Now, I do have a question. I have heard mention on here that you can get refill requests through the system. So:

1. The number I put in the pharmacy call back number is our phone number, so that wouldn't work.
2. If they fax it back, it will just go to our fax machine.
3. I know I can go into New Crop and see what is pending, but how does the pharmacist check that off? The one I spoke with didn't know how.

Pharmacies do not upload / update the providers except a few times per week - you can tell a few pharmacies that they can send you electronic. The process is so cumbersome right now that I discourage it - AC is trying to make the electronic ones come in and show up so the workflow is good - I hope they will bring them in and you will get an e-mail in your inbox requesting refill and you can just hit scrips and do them - right now you have to look at list, open individual pt chart, use newcrop screens, find request and do it, close scrips....very slow.

Whooo Hooo! I verified that my first eRx via AC went through to Kmart. Not sure if it was ultimately faxed or not. There seems to be now way to go into Surescripts to find out.

My second attempt to Medco failed. Too bad. Some type of error message but I didnt have time to dig into it just then.

Wayne,

There is really only one way to know. I just called one of my favorite pharmacists and told him I was sending a script by ePrescribe. While he was on the phone, he saw it come through via ePrescribe.

See Bert, when I do one via RelayHealth, I can actually go back in later on, see if it was sent ultimately electronically or via fax, and even what fax number was dialed. This was useful once about a year or so ago when we sent an Rx to a store pharmacy (a couple of times) and it went through, but it wasnt there when the patient went to pick it up. Turns out the pharmacy had changed their fax number, but the old number was still a fax-- at another store in the same chain. But I do remember being on the phone with the pharmacist and haveing him tell me "oh, that's our old fax number We have anew one now."
