For anybody else who wants to do this, here is a neat online utility:
http://www.shrinkpictures.com/create-avatar/Go to this website, upload your picture, and set the avatar size to 80, and it shrinks your picture to the proper avatar size for this User Board.
Then, you come back to the User Board, look under "My Profile" and upload your pic.
