This was a problem for me until we figured that the charge for the vaccine remains in "limbo" if the provider signed off the chart before the person giving the shot signs off the order. (you would know this because the provider would not see the charge for the vaccine when he/she signs off the chart and would have to manually add the vaccine charge before closing).If the patient comes in on a later visit, upon completion of the chart, the charge shows up when the chart is signed off by the provider.
This is the way we do things in this office. All vaccines need to be ordered by the provider before they are given. Whether the patient is a walk-in or scheduled patient a chart is opened and sent to the provider. The chart is opened by the provider while seeing the patient and vaccine is ordered. If the patient is not being seen the provider still has to open the chart and order the vaccine. Vaccine is given by nurse and the nurse signs off on the order. Throughout the day or at the end of the day the chart is completed by the provider, the chart is signed off and the vaccine charges can be seen.
