Garrett,
I have used AC since 2008. I have never really had any need to have our instruments directly interface with AC. We constantly use our Atlas, Lenstar, Octopus and Cirrus, and simply import all data and reports into AC as a PDF file. In this manner, the reports are easily referenced. My lens calculation software ( Holladay surgical outcomes assessment program ) imports data directly from my Lenstar, making critical IOL transcription errors a thing of the past. The only interface I had created was between our practice management software and AC, which cost about $4500. 15K for and individual instrument interface seems ridiculous.
