You can.

But, if his network is

192.168.1.100
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.1

but his router is

192.168.16.12
255.255.255.0
192.168.16.1

then he will have connectivity issues. The router is giving him IPs, but it is set to give him the wrong ones or they are conflicting.
