I use a slightly older version of the Scansnap, they are like old HP laser printer (at least the good HP ones), they just work and do what they are supposed to do.
Can't comment on the Documates, solely because I have not used them. I don't see how they could surpass the Scansnaps, but they may be as good.
It is true that you cannot directly import, but that is not a big deal.
