I noticed no difference between working in front of the computer running windows 7 or RDP into the same computer using a windows 7 "ultrabook" over wi-fi.
So then RDP is as fast as it can be. If you want it to be faster, you'll have to make the computer you're remoting into faster. Perhaps throw in an SSD.
