I have tried Viper but CANNOT figure out how to put in vaccines given elsewhere.
Putting in vaccines given elsewhere is extremely simple. You pick a vaccine and click in the checkbox "Given Elsewhere." You don't have to pick a location, cut and paste, type a period or anything. At least four to five times faster than AC.
I have asked on this blog for help but did not get an answer. So I don't use Viper. I find it easy to put them into AC, so why change?
I remember that thread. Not sure if you didn't have it set to email you. I have NEVER not answered someone's question. As I recall, my programmer and I were code to enable VIS for all vaccines AND have it pull the PDF automatically, but everyone that had asked went away, so we stopped.
I find it easy to put them into AC, so why change?
I can appreciate that. But, I have found that most people who adopt VIPER find it MUCH easier to enter the vaccine and see the vaccine and not go into AC to enter the vaccine. While AC is much closer in my opinion to being as efficient as VIPER after v5, it still is not NEARLY as fast as VIPER. One can enter four vaccines in under 20 seconds. My MA routines enters four vaccines in under 10 to 15 seconds. I challenge anyone to do it that fast with AC. Until v6, it was more accurate and did not duplicate DTaP vaccines. We also opted to put in the actual vaccine like Comvax or Pentacel as the rules are different. The printout is better, and it is the only vaccine entry program that I have seen that documents the actual age so you don't have to calculate it.
I also do not need to ctl-v each time I put "given elsewhere" in the comments- I find it easier to right click-paste. Also, I do not have to take my hand off the mouse, which I would do if I put in a period or a dot. I find right click-paste the fastest way.
This isn't about VIPER. In fact, Julia is referring to AC here. I think CTRL + V vs right-click and paste is completely a personal preference. AC sort of steers you toward CTRL + V, because right-clicks in a lot of fields do a lot of different things. You would not have to take your hand off the mouse if you used your left hand. You could also copy a paste a period. Or just use a "v."
[quote=Julia=Also with Viper you have to enter your vaccine inventory, incl. exp. date. But in AC, I don't have to enter inventory; and when I enter the exp. date once, it comes up the next time, so I don't have to enter it again until next box. JUSt as easy, if not easier, than using yet another software and then combine the two.[/quote]
AC enters the inventory. You have to enter the expiration date in the fields below. VIPER chooses to allow you to enter the vaccine with all of its associated data so you don't make an error. When you choose MMR, then the expiration date, company, route, amount all come with it. I would find that helpful. Actually, I do find that helpful. I find it unfair of you to say you enter the expiration date only once in AC. You only enter it once in VIPER as well. And, I am not sure if you were around for versions 3 and 4 where you had to enter ALL your data every time. Yes, AC is catching up. I, personally, would not call it easier. If someone finds it easier, then two software programs are fine.
It is version 5 on the website. Could be a better website. We only CALL it a beta. It has been a full release for years. We just don't charge.
Julia thanks for the explanation. Have you used the program? It is one thing to look at it and quite another to use it. It doesn't matter to me if anyone uses it, but I want them to have the full understanding of it.
