I don't usually do our updates, there is just enough complexity in our network and ignorance on my behalf that I have to call our local IT guy to come to the office and do the update.
So this weekend I went to 6.0.10 by myself. Spent 7 hours on Saturday and didn't have any real problems. (It wasn't all spent on just the download, but mostly it was)
And on Sunday another 8 or 9 hours to finish up. Only missed loading it on three computers. One I could not figure out the path to the server, and two I never turned on, because I thought they were running as 'thin clients' and would not need the install. (I did them this morning.)
And I installed an Epson Workforce 850 network capabable printer (which has two paper trays) and actually got it on the network and functioning. Amazing.
Then I added it on a couple of non critical computers. No problems, amazing. Then I loaded it on my laptop, and my backup laptop. No problems, I am on a roll. I also had the only laptops my two partners use, (they left them with me for the weekend, as I planned this update, and I was on call). So I tried to intall the Printer on Dr. Wongs laptop. Eventually managed to get the disk out of the laptop, and the blue screen of death, (which appeared when I put the battery back in) informed me I had deleted something I shouldn't have, and it was proceeding with a full test of the C drive. "Fine, enjoy yourself I muttered", and thinking that the only problem was the Fax driver that clicked on, I went right on to Dr. Schneider's laptop and assaulted it with the installation CD from the printer. I was able to shut it down with out taking the battery out, but I could not get it to boot up again without the aborted installation process coming up on the screen.
Nice way to start a Monday.
Good news is it only took the IT guy 4 hours to unscramble the two laptops, and he took care of a lot of other maintenance issues while he was here, so I am counting this as a win, (unless you suspect he could have installed AC ver 6.0.10 on 20 workstations in less than 15 hours!)
And our verdict so far today was that version 6.010 is bitchin, must faster, BUT we didn't have any residents today so it may have benfited from less users.
