One of the topics discussed with Jon Bertman at Tahoe was the role of the forum and its relationship to the company. This explanation should probably be something that comes from AC itself, but here is my view (in the interim). The notice that was added makes it clear to everyone, especially "shoppers" (those who are in the process of learning about various EMR's) that the opinions expressed here are totally independent of the company's views. As you can imagine, when there are negative discussions here, it is not the best PR for the company. On the other hand, when the discussion is positive (as is generally the case) it is a plus for marketing. In my opinion, it takes some guts to allow users to say what they want AND to have that available to the public. That is not the case with most EMR's. Dr. Bertman expressed a commitment to a free flow of ideas, at least amongst average users, even when he doesn't necessarily like what he reads. The statement is supposed to make the relationship of the board to the company a bit clearer, and to express some basic standards for posting by board users.
