Based on information on the website and on forum posts, it looks like AC is a traditional client/server application with a centralized database, correct?

James is correct on all. I would say I am with him as far as using it that way. But, I don't see where you say that on the board.
Peer-to-Peer outnumbers Client/Server on the board at least 5:1.
I much prefer C/S, but we are in the majority.
