I think some of the updates have to do with the logistics of big corporations -names of pharmacies may change but the name they are registered with their software vendor, Medicare etc may not. I have a pharmacy called Raymond Drug but has always been listed as Raymond pharmacy. It reminds me of my bank -routing code is assigned to a name of a bank long ago absorbed by BofA but every oboe in a while I am asked a security question and have to remember Commerce Bank or some other name from 11 years ago.
In regards to drugs I have talked with the lead programmer and he said the updates should be more transparent and not require updates of software, I believe this will also happen to ice 9 and CPR.
