Sync and take your chances.
Maybe it's changed but I did extensive research on syncing. It had huge problems. If one person makes a change in a med, and then you change the med, it is overwritten, etc. I can look into again, but I have never been extremely enamored by it. I would do a backup before every sync.
You should be able to RDP or RWW or VNC or LogMeIn over your wired connected to your server and get a rather good connection. Let me think about it some more. Do you have a Virtual Machine such as VMWare?
