I have been working on the perfect solution for you, but until then, if you have really good manual dexterity, this may help.
ALT + Shift + X will maximize the top most window. Works great except it's a bit difficult to hit the "x."
Take that back: If you use your middle finger of your right hand on the right ALT key and the index finger on the space bar, it makes it easy to hit the "x" key with your left hand.
