First of all..this is an attempt to grab a piece of the billions that will come from the Govt. with almost monopolistic presence of Walmart in the business area. I am sure they will be able to somehow tie this deal with the Govt. to have a controlled selling channel, thereby making it very difficult for other players to compete.
Secondly...I don't see a huge price differential in Walmart pacage vs. if you were to buy it independently the same. The article in NYT says, it will be a ASP model which in reality, eClinicalworks sells it way cheaper than that. Infact, you don't have to pay the initial $10,000 license fee, and rather pay a monthly subscription fee.
I guess we don't have all the details of this offering but it will be interesting to see it once is available. Even if the price offers any attraction, I will be vary of ASP model of data storage.
