Is there any way that we can scan patients' medical card and import the name, insurance company, group ID, insurance company phone number into the AmazingCharts patient demographics? That will be a cool feature.

Hey Philip,
Welcome to AC.
You suggestion is wonderful. I'm not sure it's possible though. I'd think the insurance cards would have to be standardized in some way.

It is a nice idea. We have forms posted on a website. I'd like to be able to have a patient fill them out online and send it electronically and have it import into the demographics page.
My "Pie-in-the-sky" idea.

My current PM program will allow me to scan right into the demographics page. It has both "Front of card" and "Back of card" slots for this. Takes less time than copying the card.

And what, pray tell, is this wonderful program? I see you know the art of keeping people in suspense.

Visionary Medical Systems. I have used them for about 10 years.

Leslie and Bert, I think you both use this same little gem, yes? It seems to me that it is the same little card scanner that one can get at the office stores and on-line for scanning business cards. Those then tie into Excel, Office's contact manager and the like. So if I'm correct and going in the right direction it is the software that whatever company bundles the card scanning device with, to then re-sell them to "doctors" as insurance card scanners? Or perhaps the same company that manufactors and sells them., do so in two different favors with different software; one for regular business geeks and another for the medical ones.
If so, do they come ready to at least do double duty for both business cards and insurance cards? Have either of you tried to use them directly with AC? Do you know if the bundling company has to have another one of these interfaces set-up and in cooperation with the EMR or PM software vendor so as to allow them to talk to each other and work together??? So that only certain programs can take advantage of this product? I used to see them advertised more in the various medical journals like ME and the like. Thanks much.

Paul, I scan the insurance cards from my Brother 8840D MFC right into my PM program. The Brother comes with its own scanning software but I don't even have to go through it. My PM software has a variety of scanning options and I just simply default it to the Brother machine. Two clicks and one side of the card is in, two more and the other side is in. I can also print off the scanned image if needed.
